Book 1 – The Other Side Of The Universe
Father Jonas — The mission’s priest/chaplain (and theologian voice). He becomes the “human conscience” of the crew once Infinity starts rewriting what “safe” even means.
Dr. Mara Kline — Science lead. She’s the one who keeps pushing for truth, even when the truth costs comfort and certainty.
Kaito Venn — Measurement/physics specialist. He’s obsessed with building a new “language” for impossible scale, and he’s the first to realize reality is changing the rules.
Anika — Security/operations. Practical, suspicious, and hard to manipulate. She’s the one who keeps the crew alive when awe turns into risk.
Rei — Crew member who becomes the emotional “signal.” She notices when the calm is fake, when the silence is engineered, and when the room feels wrong.
ARIA (the ship AI) — Starts as a tool, becomes a character fast. ARIA is the one trying to translate Infinity while also being changed by it.
Main Antagonists
The Rim / The Boundary — The first true enemy: the edge of the known universe. It’s not “evil,” but it’s dangerous because it breaks cause-and-effect.
Infinity (the outer realm) — Not just a place, but a layered system that messes with entropy, scale, and meaning. It turns the mission into a moral problem, not just a science one.
DOWN (the flattening force) — The “wrong-direction” pressure: order that removes choice. It’s the first taste of the kind of control that later becomes policy.
The Hunger (early presence) — The creeping appetite behind “relief.” In Book 1 it’s more like a shadow/pressure than a full character—something that wants the easiest human weakness.
The Warden (seeded near the end) — In Book 1 it’s mostly a signal/authority presence—the first hint that Infinity has something like a “guardian” that treats freedom as a hazard.
Supporting Characters
Commander Elias Rook — Mission commander. Good leader, but stressed by the fact that the mission was “not supposed to exist.”
Dr. Sato Lin — Systems/telemetry scientist back on Earth or aboard (your choice). Helps confirm the “last coordinate” isn’t just a sensor error.
Nadia Kess — Communications officer / signal analyst. First to notice “noise becoming pattern” on the other side.
Director Hale (cameo / early mention) — Not the main villain yet, but Book 1 can seed him as a “responsible authority type” who will later want to use what the crew finds.
